Oak Beams

Oak Beam Fireplace Mantels

Oak beams were originally used as supporting bressummer lintels for large inglenook fireplaces built hundreds of years ago

Nowadays the oak beam mantel piece has become a popular fireplace design choice. The splash of real oak character is sometimes all that is needed for a fireplace that blends into a traditional or contemporary room setting. We use locally sourced Essex air dried oak, French oak, and reclaimed oak for our fireplace beams; each with their own unique details and colors to suit your interior designs.

Extreme care must be taken when designing and installing a wood burning fireplace with a wooden beam. A solid oak beam can withstand high temperatures but it is wood and so is combustible. Placed too close to a fire, stove or stove flue pipe, the wood will catch fire. Only employ fireplace fitters who fully understand the potential hazzards of using wooden features too close to a fire, the results can be disastrous
