Fireplace mantels made of oak have always been a popular choice for fireplace designs.

Wooden mantel designs have changed over the centuries, from a carved oak Tudor surround to the clean lines of modern MDF; wooden fireplace mantel styles identify the age of an old fireplace. At Scarlett Fireplaces, we design, build and install bespoke wooden mantels in oak, MDF and any other suitable timbers.

Using oak surrounds in fireplaces alongside modern wood-burning stoves does require an understanding of UK fireplace and chimney regulations and stove manufacturers recommendations relating to the distances needed from a stove and its flue pipe to surrounding combustible materials. To meet these requirements, we carefully design our wooden mantels, integrating noncombustible elements such as slate, stone and fireboard slips alongside carefully designed fireplace chambers and chimney lining methods to protect the combustible wooden surfaces from extreme heat.
