We found this inglenook fireplace in a dilapidated mess and close to collapse.
A fireplace with windows, what a view!
Previous generations had altered the fireplace, adding a flimsy timber beam to support the massive inglenook chimney above. We carefully removed the unsafe components, supporting the stack with a new steel RSJ. We added the reclaimed oak beam to cover the steel support by carving out the centre of the beam to create an L shape cladding. A natural finish sandstone hearth was then laid alongside a Clearview Vision 500 wood stove.
This stunning inglenook fireplace was close to collapse having been altered and neglected by previous generations. We carefully removed unsafe components and supported the chimney stack with a modern steel joist. An oak beam was crafted and carved out to conceal the steel joist and to add the statement and grandeur that this very special fireplace deserved.
The hearth was laid with a natural sandstone which was a purposely simple finish, to show off the elegant Clearview Vision 500 wood burning stove.
A perfect example of how expert restoration, paired with high quality materials, can add abeautiful centrepiece to your home for the generations to come.
