Heat shields for wood stoves and fireplace surrounds come in various forms and are designed to shield the areas around fireplaces and wood burning stoves from excess heat.

A wood stove heat shield surround can be made made from tiles, stone, metal or vitreous enamel panels and can help create a stunning fireplace style. Some heat shields can reduce the required distance to combustible materials from a wood burner. It is impossible to install a wood burner close to a combustible wall unless a heat shield backing is added for protection.
