We uncovered this Georgian red brick fireplace chamber with double brick arch that had been blocked up for many years
This attractive Georgian brick fireplace with double brick arch had been blocked up for many years before the Scarlett’s team uncovered it. Previous generations had damaged the brickwork and so our craftsmen replaced clay bricks and repointed the entire fireplace chamber using a lime-based mortar. The plastered surround is a classic and timeless solution to a fireplace design and its simplicity showcases the beauty of the original brickwork.
The chimney was relined, and simple slate tiles were laid as a fireplace hearth to house the Charnwood C-Eight wood burning stove.
